What is Profractional Laser Resurfacing?

This skin resurfacing treatment utilizes a laser beam that penetrates deep into the skin’s tissue to produce thousands of minuscule channels into the targeted areas. These tiny, controlled wounds affect only small portions of the skin, stimulating the natural healing process and encouraging the production of new collagen. After approximately 5 to 7 days, the skin will heal. Patients can expect to observe a plumped look of the skin and a decrease in visible scars, wrinkles, and other imperfections.

Another advantage of Profractional Laser Resurfacing is the customizability of the treatment. Our talented practitioners can adjust and customize the penetration depths of the laser depending upon the patient’s skin needs to deliver maximum results and benefits.

How the Procedure Works

Our Profractional laser wounds and removes portions of the outer skin while heating the underlying skin. These controlled injuries stimulate collagen production. As the underlying skin regrows and heals, the area treated becomes smoother and tighter.

Before & Preparation

  • Avoid using any skincare products that contain retinol for at least one week before the procedure.
  • Avoid being exposed to direct sunlight before the procedure.
  • Discontinue use of any tanning products for at least a week before treatment.
  • You may be prescribed medications such as antivirals before your therapy appointment to prevent cold sores.
During Profractional Laser Resurfacing

During the Procedure

  • Before your procedure, we will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area.
  • Once the numbing cream takes effect, our expert staff will apply the Profractional laser to the predetermined target areas. These typically include any areas such as the face, neck, chest, and hands.
  • When the treatment is complete, you will receive an ointment to soothe and cool the skin.
  • The duration of the session is about 30 to 40 minutes.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • In the first 24 hours, you may experience some mild redness, burning, or discomfort in the treated area.
  • Peeling and flaking skin can appear. It’s essential to keep your skin hydrated and try not to pick or peel flaky skin.
  • We recommend applying a cool compress to soothe any swollen, painful areas.
  • Complete recovery takes about 5 to 7 days after your resurfacing therapy.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure.
