What is HALO Fractionated Resurfacing?

HALO fractionated resurfacing is a skin rejuvenation method that eliminates minor facial flaws and improves overall skin texture. This treatment targets various forms of skin damage on nearly anybody area, including the neck, face, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

HALO is the first hybrid fractional laser that uses a combination of both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. The unique dual-laser design allows for simultaneous resurfacing of the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis) and the thick, deeper layers of tissue (dermis). A single treatment produces approximately 25 to 30 percent skin resurfacing compared to 5 percent resurfacing results from other lasers.

The HALO laser treatment can act as a solution for:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Rough skin texture
  • Skin discoloration
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Acne and scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

This innovative hybrid resurfacing treatment is safe, effective, and comfortable for patients of all skin types and tones. HALO features motion-tracking technology to scan and target imperfections deep within the epidermis that are often overlooked or not visible on darker skin tones. The HALO laser provides maximum results with minimal discomfort and downtime.

How the Procedure Works

The HALO laser simultaneously emits two classes of laser light to fractionally resurface the skin. The treatment is virtually painless and typically takes 20 minutes to an hour to complete. Refer to the sections below for a more detailed rendition of the treatment process.

Before & Preparation

  • Apply sunscreen (UVA and UVB protection) to the area to be treated each day in the weeks before your procedure.
  • Discontinue using skin care products containing active ingredients the week before your procedure. These products include Retinol (Retin-A, Tretinoin, Vitamin A), Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, AHAs (Alpha-hydroxy acids), LHAs (Lipo hydroxy acids), and Benzoyl Peroxide.
  • Avoid waxing and depilatory creams for two weeks before your treatment.
  • Remove makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or other creams on the area to be treated before your appointment.
  • Avoid medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aspirin, Fish Oils, Vitamin E, or other blood thinners the week before your procedure.
During Halo Fractionated Resurfacing

During the Procedure

  • Your provider will cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing agent to the treatment area to reduce discomfort.
  • After the local anesthetic takes full effect, the treatment process begins.
  • The motion-tracking technology of the HALO device scans the treatment area to locate superficial and deep imperfections.
  • Your provider will apply the laser to your skin.
  • Patients will experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.
  • Inform your provider if you encounter any severe discomfort throughout the treatment process.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • Your provider will supply aftercare instructions following the procedure to ensure optimal results.
  • Recovery time and results vary based on the depth and density of the treatment and individual healing ability.
  • Immediately following treatment, you may experience a temporary burning sensation, similar to a sunburn. This effect should subside within a few hours.
  • You may experience mild redness in the treatment area for a few days after treatment.
Halo Fractionated Resurfacing Treatment Areas
  • MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) may appear 1-3 days after treatment, which just looks like tiny pinpoint scabs at the skin surface. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. These tiny dark tissue spots will naturally slough off as new skin forms.
  • You should use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water to clean the affected area for the first week. We recommend the Alastin Recovery Kit from TheSkinSpot.com
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and utilize proper sun protection three months after your procedure. We recommend using a mineral sunscreen with broadband protection and an SPF of at least 30. Here is a list of high quality sunscreens to choose from.
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous activities and excessive sweating for 5 to 7 days until the skin has fully healed.

HALO Fractionated Resurfacing FAQs

How long do Halo laser results last?

Patients can observe visible skin improvement within 3 to 5 days of treatment. Results will continue to improve for six months as HALO promotes enhanced collagen production. With proper skin care and sun protection, results can last for years.

Is Halo laser worth it?

Hybrid fractional laser technology allows the HALO treatment to effectively resurface 25-30% of the skin after a single treatment compared to 5% resurfacing of other lasers. Treatment is virtually painless, requires minimal downtime, and results can last years with proper skin care protection.

Which is better halo or Fraxel?

The Halo laser utilizes ablative and non-ablative wavelengths, while Fraxel emits solely ablative wavelengths. The Halo device is currently the preferable skin rejuvenating solution as it provides vast improvements to the superficial and deep layers of the skin.

How long does fractional resurfacing last?

Fractional resurfacing with HALO laser technology provides substantial results for years to come. The combination of ablative and non-ablative wavelengths stimulates enhanced collagen production six months after treatment.

Which is better chemical peel or laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing procedures have produced far superior results than chemical peels. Laser treatments are more precise and can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin to provoke the healing process and enhance natural collagen production.

How painful is the Halo laser?

Your provider will apply a local anesthetic before treatment to reduce discomfort. Patients may experience mild heat or “tingling” sensations, but many report little to no discomfort.
