miraDry® Sweat Reduction is a non-invasive, FDA-approved procedure to treat underarm hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating. The miraDry system painlessly and permanently eliminates embarrassing sweating, odor, and discomfort.
It uses microwave energy to precisely target and reduce the number of underarm sweat and odor glands. miraDry is an effective and long-lasting solution for excessive sweating and odor with minimal downtime and proven patient satisfaction.
What is miraDry Sweat Reduction?
miraDry is an increasingly popular treatment to manage excessive underarm sweating. The miraDry system consists of a software-driven console, handpiece device, and Biotip. It uses microwave energy (104–105 μm, 5800 MHz) to precisely target and eliminate underarm sweat and odor glands. The device features cooling technology to simultaneously cool the skin’s surface during treatment, reducing discomfort and damage to surrounding tissue.
miraDry has provided a more permanent and effective treatment for underarm hyperhidrosis when compared to alternative treatment modalities. Treatment bears minimal downtime, low recurrence rates, and fewer complications. While it is proven to treat excessive underarm sweating successfully, the FDA has not cleared the system to treat other body areas. In 2015, the FDA cleared the device to permanently terminate odor glands and underarm hair.

The Gallery below depicts Before and After Images of actual patients. The pictures show improvement in symptoms after treatment with miraDry.
How miraDry Sweat Reduction Works
The miraDry procedure typically lasts one hour. Your provider will use the handheld device to deliver electromagnetic energy to the skin, eliminating underarm sweat glands. We will provide detailed instructions for adequate preparation and recovery.
Before & Preparation
- Shave your underarm hair two to three days before the procedure.
- You will receive local anesthesia injected into your underarms to minimize discomfort and elevate the skin to provide a barrier between the heated device and important underlying structures.
- Your provider will mark the treatment areas with a template to use as a guide.
During the Procedure
- Your provider will glide the handheld device over your underarms.
- The handpiece will create a suction-like sensation on the skin to elevate and ensure access to the sweat glands. This feeling might be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful.
- The miraDry system contains a cooling technology to help minimize discomfort.
- The procedure typically takes one to two hours to complete.
Aftercare & Recovery
- You might experience mild underarm soreness, redness, bruising, and tenderness for a few days.
- Some patients also report numbness and tingling in the upper arm and underarm areas. This is a possible side effect of local anesthesia.
- We may advise you to take over-the-counter pain medications and apply ice packs to your underarms for 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
- Avoid shaving, antiperspirants/deodorants, tight shirts, and strenuous activities for at least one week.
- Typically, most patients resume normal activities after treatment.
- It is possible to experience excessive sweating up to 2 weeks after the procedure. This symptom will eventually resolve independently.
Treatment Areas
The FDA has restricted treatment areas to the underarms only.

miraDry Reviews
I had the Miradry procedure done with Ortal and Corrie. I was extremely pleased with the results and would highly recommend doing the procedure with them. They were both very knowledgeable and followed up multiple times afterwards to make sure I was healing up well. Could not have asked for a better experience overall!
