Dr. Nazarian and Spa26 now offer the diVa Vaginal Laser®, a quick and easy, minimally-invasive vaginal laser therapy requiring little to no recovery time. The diVa laser has been known to correct symptoms such as vaginal dryness, lax tissues, decreased sensation, and urinary stress incontinence.

The treatment is customized to address each individual’s needs and produce results depending on the goals of each patient. The procedure takes about three to five minutes to complete and requires little to no downtime for recovery. In most cases, the desired results are observed after three initial treatments, spaced four weeks apart, followed by an annual maintenance treatment.

What is the diVa Laser?

The diVa laser therapy utilizes hybrid fractional laser (HFL) technology to deliver two laser wavelengths for a coactive effect. The lasers release ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the treatment area to fulfill precise results based on the patient’s needs. The tool (wand) used is encased in a single-use quartz dilator that expands the vaginal canal to make sure the treatment is hitting the entire vaginal wall. The procedure resurfaces the vaginal wall and replaces damaged tissue with healthy, new tissue. Treatment also activates collagen and receptor growth in the vaginal walls to improve vaginal health and reduce symptoms such as vaginal dryness associated with menopause or postpartum. While every woman responds differently to treatment, generally, one can expect results to last anywhere from 9 to 18 months.

diVa Laser Benefits

The diVa laser treatment is non-surgical and does not require anesthesia. Results are long-lasting, with effects prevailing anywhere from 9 to 18 months post-treatment. Maximum results are usually observed after three initial treatments spaced four weeks apart. An annual “touch-up” session will help maintain the longevity of effects. Benefits of the diVa laser include:

  • Increased sexual satisfaction
  • Enhanced ability to reach orgasm
  • Decrease in pain during intercourse
  • Increase in vaginal tightness
  • Improved vaginal lubrication (even in post-menopausal women)
  • Improved low to mid-levels of urinary stress incontinence

Along with significant health and wellness benefits, it is also essential to mention the CONFIDENCE many women regain in their sex lives post-treatment. Women report feeling more “like themselves” again and more joyous in the following months.

How the Procedure Works

The diVa treatment is a quick and virtually painless, in-office procedure. There is no pre-treatment preparation outside of the office. A topical anesthetic may be applied to the treatment area to enhance your overall comfort. Once the topical anesthetic takes effect, the treatment session lasts a matter of minutes to complete with little to no downtime.

Before & Preparation

  • There is no pre-treatment preparation to worry about outside of the office.
  • Upon arrival, your provider will walk you through the procedure and answer any additional questions you may have.
  • You will then lie down on the examination table, and your practitioner will apply a topical numbing cream to the vaginal canal.
  • It can take up to 20 minutes for the anesthetic to take full effect.

During the Procedure

  • Once the numbing cream reaches full effect, your provider will remove the numbing cream and insert the diVa wand into the vagina.
  • Then the wand will stay in place during the treatment.
  • Once inside, the wand rotates, minimizing discomfort and ensuring that the laser pulses reach the targeted tissue effectively and thoroughly.
  • The treatment is automated, so there’s no need for your doctor to move the wand once it’s inserted.
  • Mild pain or discomfort during the beginning of treatment, such as pressure against the vaginal wall and sensitivity near the vaginal opening, is common.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • After treatment, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
  • Avoid vaginal sex, tampons, and hot baths: the diVa laser creates controlled injuries in the tissue; therefore, you will need to avoid anything that touches the area for 72 hours after your treatment.
  • You may experience slight discomfort, light discharge, tenderness, or cramping for up to 72 hours following treatment.
